Hi, my name is Douglas Bell. I hail from the San Francisco Bay Area, and I am currently a junior at American University in Washington, DC. At AU, I am enrolled in the School of Communication with a major in Public Communications and minors in Music Education Studies. I am also in the University Honors program. Born on September 28, 1991, I am currently 20 years old.
I contribute heavily to ATV, AU’s student-run television station. I serve on the executive board as Webmaster & IT Director, and am responsible for designing and maintaining the station’s website. I have also contributed to managing the station’s broadcast schedule, and for deploying Mac OS X Server and Final Cut Server for internal use at the station. I also co-host, co-produce, and edit a show about technology called Tech tAUk, and am the Floor Manager and Assistant Director of SportsZone. I have also produced the live Student Government Presidential Debate broadcast for the past two years.
For the 2011-12 academic year, I am serving as Chair of the AU Student Media Board and Secretary of the School of Communication Undergraduate Student Council. I also write a biweekly column for The Eagle, AU’s student newspaper. In prior years I have served as Parliamentarian and IT Director of the AU Student Government.
I am also quite musically active on-campus, currently studying cello with Professor Nancy Jo Snider. I am currently the principal cellist in the AU Symphony Orchestra, and I also participate in the AU Chamber Music program. I am also active within the AU United Methodist-Protestant Community as Associate Director of the Fellowship of Sound musical/choral group, where I play cello and sing during worship services.
I have served as Webmaster of the 17th District PTA, from 2004-2011. I was incredibly active within PTA when I was in high school, serving as Student Involvement Chair at 17th District, two years as Parliamentarian in San Mateo-Foster City, and two years serving as a student board member on the California State PTA Board of Managers, where I participated in the Communications Commission and Student Involvement Committee.
I have been working avidly with WordPress, and have developed (and re-developed) a number of websites using it as a platform in both standard and Multisite modes. I have developed a number of private internal plugins for WordPress for use on my websites and have recently begun releasing some plugins publicly. I am also beginning to teach myself how to develop iOS applications.
